发现于河南桐柏，1983年被命名为“桐柏大枣”，是极具发展前景的优良品种。
       
    果实近圆形，平均纵径5厘米，横径4.5厘米，平均单果重46克，最大克。果皮中厚、赭红，光洁美观。果个均匀，核小，肉质厚嫩，汁多脆甜，香味浓重，鲜食品质极佳。鲜枣含糖量32.3%，可食率97.2%。为特大果鲜食优良品种。
       
    果实9月下旬成熟，果实发育期110天左右。适应性强，生长期能耐人43℃的高温酷暑，休眠期能抵御-32℃的低温严寒。抗旱，抗涝，耐瘠薄，耐盐碱，极丰产、稳产。桐柏大枣产于河南省南阳市，是一个大枣芽变，1983年发现并定名。该品种个大核小，肉厚皮薄，色泽鲜红，脆甜多汁，平均单果重52克，最大单果重89克，鲜果含糖量32.26%,每百克鲜枣含维生素C442.3毫克，含维生素P（路丁）2385毫克，居各种水果之首，同时还含有丰富的蛋白质、粗纤维等。具有益心润肺，和脾健胃，益气生津，补血养颜之功效。常吃能轻身延年，有益健康。1983年10月在北京经专家评定，桐柏大枣以果大质优被评为中国第一大枣，并被载入《中国枣树志》第一品类中。1995年9月，桐柏大枣荣获“中国科技精品展览会金奖”，1996年被国家林业部确定为100项新成果推广项目。目前，桐柏大枣已被北京、上海、山东、淅江等地广泛引种。
