贵妃杏产于河南灵宝市黄河沿岸的沙土地带,个大如鹅蛋,果皮和果肉橙黄色,阳面有晕,平均单果重2两左右,有的3-4个就达一斤。此杏细,无纤维,酸甜可口,汁液丰富,芳香浓郁。
关于“贵妃杏”名字的由来有一段传说。相传,唐代贵妃杨玉环,幼时生活在灵宝,脸色虽白而不嫩,皮肤细而不润,长得并不十分好看。她家院中有一颗杏树结的杏儿又大又黄,格外香甜,玉环年年食之,后变得冰肌粉面,如花似玉。于是人们在杨玉环入宫被册封为贵妃之后,便把这种杏称为“贵妃杏”。

贵妃杏果核味略甜,可食用,适宜鲜食,也可以加工成果脯或糖水罐闲。亦可入药。贵妃杏树抗干旱、耐瘠薄、结果早、盛果期长、投资小、收益大等特点。贵妃杏嫁接后3年就可挂果,10年后进入盛果期,每株产杏一般都在500斤上下,多者可达千斤以上。盛果期长达40余年。
贵妃杏的果实大如鸭蛋,平均重80克,最大的重200克。果形较贺,果皮和果肉呈橙黄色,朝阳面有红晕,肉质细韬,汁多,芳香浓郁,适宜鲜食,也可以加工成果脯或糖水罐闲。果核味略甜,可食用,亦可入药。 1999年6月江泽民总书记视察灵宝时,品尝了贵妃杏,称赞“味道极佳”。现栽培面积1500亩,年产量250万公斤。
