鲁台大葱，中州土特名产。栽培历史悠久。传说春秋鲁国秋胡居官于陈，五年未归，为解思乡之情，筑望鲁台（今称鲁台）眺望故里，每至深夜常食大葱抵御风寒，故乡人多有种大葱之习，延至以后面积渐广。其白长肥嫩，味辣冲鼻，葱花能浮汤面。
       
    据淮阳县志记载，鲁台为新石器时代文化遗址。相传春秋时鲁人秋胡，任于陈居此，常思念家乡，筑高台以望鲁，故称望鲁台，亦称秋胡台，为淮阳“七台八景”之一。北宋一代名将狄青曾与辽军大战于鲁台弱5公里瓦岗坡，战死葬于此，现有狄青墓，位于鲁台东北2公里处。抗日战争和解放战争期间鲁台曾是周口中心县委所在地。 　
       
    鲁台是农业大镇。全镇有耕地面积65000亩，农作物主要是小麦、玉米、大豆。鲁台大葱是名优土特产。栽培历史悠久，品味独特，远销于河南、安徽、河北等省。2003年栽种面积4200亩，年产葱1000万公斤。畜牧养殖业发展迅速，全镇现有千头以上养猪场3处，500头以上8处，100头以上18处，现有母猪存栏2000头，年出售生猪4万头以上，年产值2800万元。千只以上养鸡场50处，年产值300万元，全镇山羊存栏4万只以上。



 

Lutai Shallots 

   
    Lutai shallot is a famous specialty in Henan Province, which has a long cultivating history. It's said that in Chunqiu and Zhangou Era, Qiu Hu had been an official in Chenguo Country for 5 years. He was so homesick that he established a Lookout Plat to see his hometown, when at night he ate shallots to prevent cold weather. Later, people there set cultivating shallots as a custom gradually and enlarged planting areas. Lutai shallots have characteristics of white, long, fat, tender, pungent and chopped shallot being floated on soup.
